Welcome back!

Well, it's finally here. Milk River Elementary is up and running! Another 40ish weeks of new friendships, quizzes, assemblies, and recesses (which I have heard is the favourite "subject" of many students).
I am so excited - and from the students I have seen biking around Milk River in the last week or so, or those buying their fresh new school supplies at Staples, I think many of the kids are too!
We are so lucky at MRE to have such a great group of people to work with - staff and students alike.

So, Grade 2, 4, and 5 students are coming home with a Homework Folder today. Many of you have used this with me before, but for those new to the idea, see the info below:
- folders are sent home on Mondays and due on Thursdays
- if you have any questions about an assignment, you can contact me on this blog, send me an agenda message, or call me at the school.

Grade 2s and 3s also have a reading log in their agendas. When students read at home, they can record it on their log. Once a reading log is filled, that student gets a prize, and will bump up their Reading Counts points.

And Grade 2s are going to start the year off with a bang, having their first spelling test on Friday. We will be working on our "wall words" on Tuesdays during class time. To practice at home, students will have a list of their words in their Homework Folders.
You can also see the word list at my spelling website:
This site has some fun games to play that will helps students practice their words.

I think that's it for now...
I hope you guys have a great first day. I know I sure will!

It's coming soon!

Well, the teachers are back at school today, working like crazy to get ready for the next school year. It's going to be exciting - new students and new teachers are joining us.
We are all looking forward to seeing the kids on Monday! Enjoy your last weekend of freedom ; )

Testing... testing... testing...

Hi there!
To correspond to our new AISI project, which will incorporate technology into writing, I have decided to start a blog for my classes.
Parents and students are welcome to join, read, and make comments throughout the year. Hopefully this will help us all to build a strong home-to-school relationship.
See you in a couple of weeks!
